KISSIMMEE: Cheap Hotels in Kissimmee

Kissimmee

When to visit based on price

The best months for visiting the Kissimmee area are November through January, May and September. These are the months with low volume of visitors, and best hotel and air deals. Keep in mind that Kissimmee because of its proximity to area attractions, like Disney World, make it a year round destination.

Key attractions

The key attractions in the greater Kissimmee area of course include Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. However, if you need a break from the crowds, or just want to visit some local attractions, the following are well worth a visit.
For the history buff, especially military history, spending some time at the Museum of Military History is in order. For a mere $7 you can examine over 50,000 historic military items on display.
If you want to stroll in a relaxing setting, and learn something about the history of the United States, then visit the Osceola County Pioneer Village. Like a few others in the U.S. this is a re-creation of a historic village from the 1800’s. You can choose to stroll yourself, or take a 45 minute guided tour. For $5 per person, it’s quite a deal.

Having fun

If you’ve always dreamed of catching the “perfect wave” then it’s time to try. You can visit Fantasy Surf where you get a lesson or two on a real surfboard in a wave pool. Not only do you get to cool off, but also when asked what you did on your vacation, you can say, “Caught a wave or two”.
Spend some time in “Old Town” where you and the kids can enjoy the Windstorm Roller Coaster, and other rides. If Mom isn’t into the rides, she can enjoy the day browsing through over 75 specialty stores. And while there, you just have to go to Legends Hauntings. This “Fun House” is actually in Ashton & Sons Undertakers, which was in business ever since 1889 until recently becoming an attraction. Be ready to meet some of the “deceased clients” from the past when you least expect to.
And if that didn’t remove a layer or two of your skin when you jumped out of it, there’s another adventure awaiting you.
For an outdoor adventure, why not drive to Cypress Lake and take a Airboat ride? Fly around the lake looking for crocks! It’s an adventure for Dad and son or daughter, with stories that will last a lifetime.

Shopping

If looking for premium designer outfits, shoes and more, then head to the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores, Orlando Premium Outlets and or International Drive. These shops offer top of the line shopping at discount prices.
If calmer boutique shopping has your fancy, then maybe a visit to Town Center and the tree lined shops on the street offering specialty shops with charm.
Lastly there’s Old Town, which is just what it sounds like, the old Kissimmee, where you can experience a collection of old specialty shops, along with activities for the whole family.

Nearby

One of the famous experiences in Florida is close buy, and an awesome day trip. The Kennedy Space Center Complex is a once in a lifetime for many, and could be yours. An adventure for the entire family, you get to tour behind the scenes of the launches that have made America a leader in space travel .Get to examine the Space Shuttle Atlantis, meet a real life astronaut. If you really want to experience what its like to fly, you can get strapped into a real flight simulator and take a ride to the moon.

Local expert's tips

  • Save money and avoid crowds on a Kissimmee, Florida vacation

Summer in Florida is just plain hot, and you need to be prepared to drink lots of water. Save yourself a bundle of cash, and stay cool by packing snacks and frozen water bottles in a backpack. As the water thaws, cool and refreshing water will help keep you cool and hydrated. The snacks will curb those hunger pains until you really need to eat. As far as eating in the main attractions, the best way to choose where to eat is to check out menus at different restaurants. Don’t rely of “discount coupons” in flyers for choosing, because most are a rip off. Remember that the worst way to choose a restaurant is when you are starving, so take your time, check restaurants out as you snack, and avoid “binging till you’re broke”.
A super idea for savings on both your pocketbook as well as your mind, is to plan one “non-theme park day” That’s right, plan one day in the middle of your vacation to do nothing but sit at the hotel pool. If that’s a little to laid back, plan a trip to somewhere in a day trip distance for a visit even if just for lunch.
Only an hour drive from Kissimmee will put you on th famous Daytona Beach, where you can drive on it, visit Florida’s tallest lighthouse, do some window shopping and have a cheap lunch. Another excellent choice, although it will cost admission is the Kennedy Space Center. You can enjoy less hectic day, no lines and plenty of air-conditioning.
Hot Tip: One sure way to loose money on a Kissimmee Summer Vacation, is o get sunburned. Use sunscreen liberally to avoid spending days moaning in your hotel room. Spending all that money to get there and being too uncomfortable to do anything is a large waster of dollars. And it happens!

  • Save $$$ on your family Kissimmee, Florida vacation

With over 60 species of snakes, enclosed in glass of course, you get to explore rattlesnakes, Mambas, giant pythons and a serious 18- foot king cobra. In fact, since 1972 this facility has produced snake venom for pharmaceutical companies that not only do research but also produce anti-venom. In fact, while your there you should take in the exciting show as they “milk” vipers and cobras of their deadly venom.
It’s not only about snakes here, as you also get to explore the reptile world of alligators, turtles, crocodiles, iguanas and even a parrot or two. All this fun and adventure for under $6 for the kids and under $9 for adults? What a deal.

Another terrific place to spend an exciting day with your children for a lot less than other major “theme” parks is Gatorland. Now, don’t start thinking about how are you going to be entertaining your children for a day with just alligators, because there’s more involved. From the moment you take a picture of your kids standing in the World-Famous gator mouth entrance, your little ones will know there’s more excitement inside.

This 110-acre wildlife preserve and park offers you viewing their thousands of alligators, including four very rare white alligators. From a small child petting zoo to the enclosed bird aviary there’s entertainment galore for your kids. Exciting daily shows including alligator wrestling, as well as a feeding show that will make you think twice about swimming anywhere but your hotel pool. There are also some special programs for children, including the “trainer-for-a-day”, where your children get to experience behind the scenes work with the animals. That may set you back a few dollars extra, but might be an experience well worth it.

And then there’s the reason you all should bring “closed-toe” shoes, and its called “Screamin Gator”. You’ll be snapped onto the zip-line 1,200 feet in the air as you fly over the Gatorland “stars”, the Nile and Cuban crocodiles below. And that’s not all because just when you think its safe below, you find yourself gliding over Alligator Breeding Mars, with its 130 massive alligators watching you and hoping for a mid-day snack.
Speaking of snacks, there are multiple options for eating in Gatorland. In Pearl’s Smokehouse you can snack on the specialty, fried gator nuggets, now doesn’t that sound yummy? At the Snackbar you can enjoy a sandwich or dog while viewing alligators and turtles in the pools surrounding you.

Helpful hint: they offer at the Snackbar kids meals from hot dogs to PB&J sandwiches.

Another great place to spend a day is Old Town in Kissimmee that offers something for the entire family. From amusements to shopping as well as many great food choices, you can enjoy a day and stay within a nice budget. Your children can experience what it was like in the “old days” before x-box and Gameboy, when little ones hung out in the arcades. There’s also a killer go-cart track for both children and adults.

The shopping adventures abound with stores featuring clothes from the 60’s, buy cowboy boots at Old Town Leather, or those designer sunglasses in multiple stores. There are more stores than one can visit in a day, and all offering from every day items to unique gifts. It’s a great place to find a restaurant for dinner, with choices from Flippers Pizza to Tex-Mex Grille or Southern Breeze.
For a more in-expensive option for lunch, why not try A&W or Jimmy Johns for a burger or sandwich. If you really want to keep to the budget, another option is grabbing sandwiches at Downtown Deli and finding a park bench to do some “people watch”.
