Local expert's tips
How to stay cool during your vacation in Laughlin, NV in 2016
One of the most popular places for relaxing poolside is at the Cancun Lagoon Pool / Bar at Harrah’s Laughlin, especially for the adults. Rent your cabana poolside (advance reservations highly suggested). You can fit up to six people in one, and have yourself a party with “pool service”. The bummer is you can’t BYOB or food. Good news is there’s a refrigerator stocked with cold water, ceiling fan, and a cabana host. This all isn’t cheap, but if you win big in the casino, it’s only money.
The other fun thing about this hotel is there’s also a beach with soft clean sand to hang out right on the Colorado River. The pools and beach are accessible for hotel guests only, so plan that ahead too. And for the “playful at heart” the South Pool is “Adults Only” if you get my meaning.
A fun and adventure driven way to cool off for singles, couples and families is taking the London Bridge Jet Boat Tour. You will fly over the waters, sending sprays of coolness over your body while traveling some 58 miles of the Colorado River. Cruising at speeds of well over 40 MPH, you’ll visit the famous London Bridge and even stop for a couple hours in Lake Havasu Coty for hopping, dining or just sipping.
If “Personal Watercraft” is more what you had in mind, you have definitely come to the right place. The Colorado River is awesome and heavily used for Jet Ski’s as well as other watercraft. You can rent Jet Ski’s all day, half-day or even 3-hour rental, whatever fits your time away from the gambling tables. If you plan your visit ahead, make arrangements for hotel pick-up for your adventure Monday through Thursdays.
If something a bit les active is your thing, there’s the Jerkwater Canoe & Kayak rental services, offering river rips, including multi-day guided rips down the river.
Another Resort Hotel/Casino that begs you to enjoy the cooling waters of their rooftop pool is the Aquarius Casino Resort. With all the poolside modern confortable lounge chairs, bar services along with a wonderful breeze off the Colorado River, cool is in. This pool is for everyone, adults as well as your children, evident by the cocktails, beer and wine available to adults, and smoothies for the kids, and “kids at heart”. There are also cabanas available but you need to jump on those early.
Although there isn’t a tram like on the strip at Las Vegas to get you to different casinos, Laughlin has a moor “Cooling” transportation for you. Water taxis are available to shuttle visitors from Casino hotel, to casino hotel on the Colorado River.
These not only fit the bill for inter-casino transportation, but also are actually considered an attraction, a cool one at that.
