Cleveland is America's comeback kid. In recent years, it has gone through a makeover which has seen the cleaning of its river, the revitalizing of its restaurant scene, and the establishing of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The downtown area has most of the attractions and the best accommodations.
Located along the southern shore of one of America's Great Lakes and at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, Cleveland started out as a manufacturing center for steel and automotive parts. This reinvented city has recently moved on from its urban industrial past as a rail and shipping hub to become a popular tourist stop with top-notch museums, great dining and drinking options, amusement parks, excellent golf courses, and a notable arts scene.

Key attractions
One of the best things about Cleveland's reinvention is the construction of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Arguably the city's most famous tourist attraction, the museum records and displays historical artifacts of the most influential artists, producers, and engineers in rock music history. A free attraction worth seeing is the Cleveland Museum of Art, with its world-class Asian and classical collection. Prominent architectural landmarks include the Victorian-era Cleveland Arcade and the historic Tower City Center, both must-sees.

Having fun
Cleveland is a sports city whose locals religiously support the city’s sports teams. Visitors can experience this lively sports culture by attending a game at the First Energy Stadium, home of the Cleveland Browns American football team, or Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians baseball team. For excellent dining, head to the Historic Warehouse District, the Gateway neighborhood, or the Flats. Choices here are diverse, from Midwest to international. The Great Lakes Brewing Company comes highly recommended for drinking.

Shopping
Right in the heart of downtown is Tower City Center. This commercial complex is filled with shopping venues and food courts. Within easy reach of the downtown area is Shaker Square. Constructed in 1929, the square is a public space with benches and relaxing areas, all of which are surrounded by shops and cafés. Those who want to score pieces of art can head to the galleries of the Little Italy, Ohio City, and Tremont districts. For fresh produce, the West Side Market provides the best options.

Nearby
Lake Erie and the small towns and cities dotting its shores make for a great daytrips from Cleveland, especially if you have a car. There are scenic parkland areas along the way, as well as historic landmarks owing to the region's Old Northwest Territory heritage. Another scenic area that makes for a great excursion is the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the only national park in the state. There are beautiful waterfalls, lovely walking trails, and year-round pretty foliage in this favorite protected area.
