A rich history, tasty tapas, and unending sunshine are hallmarks of the Balearics' most important city. Now you can enjoy Palma de Mallorca hotels with some of our competitive rates.

The Balearic Islands' capital city is the most impressive town this side of mainland Spain, with its stunning harbor and lively, historic core. Palma de Mallorca has a wonderful setting and ambiance, bolstered by standout Gothic architecture that befits any major Iberian city, while also combining scrumptious tapas bars with quality seafood restaurants and shopping. Busy, tree-lined boulevards run down to the harbor-front, which features a rich marina and one or two decent city beaches, while main highways allow fast access for daytrips.

Key attractions
The old town, harbor, and nearby beaches are highlights. Casco Antiguo is one of cobbled lanes and landmark buildings, of which the huge 13th century Gothic La Seu cathedral is the main attraction. Beautifully lit and visible from all around, it is a sight to behold and is within walking distance of the Moorish Palau de l'Almudaina. You could also walk to the Arab baths and Llotja market from here, or head up behind the town and visit the Castell del Bellver with its fine views and museum. There's a city beach within walking distance of the old town.

Having fun
Palma is buzzing with activity day and night. Most of all, its tapas bars are the best in the Balearics, especially in the old town where there are myriad lazy cafés, too. The flash Paseo Marítimo is your best bet for enjoying the city’s bars and clubs, while Sa Llotja, just west of the cathedral, is an upscale area with wine bars and trendy cafés. For the best eating and views, head to the harbor front, where some of the best seafood restaurants on Mallorca reside.

Shopping
The center of Palma is the main shopping hub, especially the avenues running off of Plaça Major, the central square. Carrer de Jaume II and Avinguda Jaume III, with tree-lined Passeig des Born running off it, are all excellent choices. The jewelry stores selling local replica pearls and gold are exquisite, while class boutiques deal in the latest European fashions. Galerias Preciados and El Corte Ingles are two Spanish department store giants with high quality products. Keep an eye out for local handicrafts and leather wear.

Nearby
You can cover virtually all parts of Mallorca within an hour from Palma by car. The top beach resorts are nearby Magaluf and Palma Nova, 20 minutes to the south, while just over the headland is cool Santa Ponsa. Soller and Valldemossa are exquisite mountain towns to the north, with Alcadia, a popular retreat for families on the north coast, 40 minutes away. Lovely secluded coves and resorts reside on the east coast, such as Cala Millor; the Caves of the Dragon is a big attraction nearby.
