Though a bit kitschy, the Shell Factory and Nature Park offers a fantastic collection of shells and sea items to both admire and purchase. This is a great rainy day spot since the Shell Factory has all kinds of diversions, like an African art gallery, bumper cars, two restaurants, and even a little zoo.

The silky white sands of the Gulf of Mexico are at their best around this part of the coast, particularly at Sanibel Island and Captive Island. Both of these gorgeous beaches are just a few minutes by car along the coast. Head inland and the native river and swamp habitats of Florida are protected within the Babcock Ranch. The wildlife scene in this huge park is one of the best in the entire state, and best of all it is easily accessible from Fort Myers in about 30 minutes by highway.
